Latest Updates: Legal Battle Against TTMC & Urang
Dear Residents,
Over the past 24 hours, leaseholders have raised important questions about the ongoing legal action against TTMC and Urang, service charge overcharges, and the future management of Maltings Close. Here’s what you need to know:
1. 2025 Service Charge Reduction – A False Win?
The reduced 2025 service charge might seem like a victory, but it doesn’t address the years of overcharges leaseholders have suffered. The budget is incorrect and could lead to deficit demands later, forcing residents to cover mismanaged costs. Our legal fight is about recovering past overpayments and ensuring long-term transparency.
2. Why You Must Sign Up to the Legal Action
To receive compensation, leaseholders must sign up—it’s a legal requirement. If we win but you haven’t signed up, your share of recovered funds may not be paid to you. Instead, it could be returned to the service charge pot or distributed among those who joined.
No sign-up, no claim—it’s a legal necessity.
3. Legal Costs & Risks – Are Leaseholders Liable?
No. Leaseholders bear zero financial risk in this case. If we win, you get compensated. If we lose, there are no costs passed on to residents.
4. Why Haven’t TTMC & Urang Been Removed Yet?
While we have 75% support for their removal, legal and contractual steps must be followed. TTMC and Urang are resisting, but leaseholder backing strengthens our case. More support = faster transition to new management.
5. TTMC’s Director Promised to Handover—Now It’s Time
TTMC Director Tom Squires stated that if 51% of leaseholders opposed him, he would step down. That threshold has been smashed with 75% support. We are formally demanding that TTMC honors its commitment now.
6. Political Pressure Mounts Against Urang
Our local MP has joined the fight, increasing national attention on Urang’s practices. Meanwhile, Urang faces a High Court default judgment for failing to respond to legal claims, and key property managers are quitting. The pressure is on.
